Sweet Apple may have failed to impress us with their album Love & Desperation, but the supergroup – consisting of Jay Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and Cobra Verde’s John Petkovic and Tim Parnin – may have redeemed themselves yet with their video for single Do You Remember.
Combining shoestring budget aesthetics, blue collar rebellion, lasciviously teasing young ladies in towels and a gig performed on a tennis court, the video is a lovingly nostalgic high five at music videos of days long, long gone. Days when videos were storyboarded, the whole band were forced to make like actors, and the whole thing was filmed poorly by the friend of a friend of a guy that someone crashed on the couch of one time.
Amazing.
You should specifically check out the video if just to witness the incredible neon green puffa jacket Jay Mascis rocks early on and his pretty fantastic skills at hitting a tennis ball with a guitar. They just don’t make men like that anymore.
