Likened to a young Ray LaMontagne or Ben Harper, Josh Kumra is rapidly developing a name for himself as a gutsy and heartfelt young performer.
This Summer saw Josh re-working one of his songs, ‘Don’t Go’ with Wretch 32, which led to a #1 single, a lot of love and resulted in Josh taking to the stages of Glastonbury and V, as well as ‘Later With Jools Holland’ and Radio One’s Live Lounge.
Josh is now working on his debut album having recently signed to Sony RCA.
Hailing from Swindon, a town better known (to some) for exports such as Billie Piper and Melinda Messenger, Josh instead grew up listening to the music his father played – Dylan, Hendrix, and Simone.
Picking up a guitar for the first time at the age of three, Josh is self-taught, and hasn’t put it down since, playing at every bar and venue in his hometown and anywhere he could get to on £20-worth of unleaded petrol.
You will know Josh as the featured vocalist on Wretch 32’s no.1 hit single ‘Don’t Go.’
Check out Josh’s first musical offering ‘Call Off The Search’ featuring Maiday in the video box – ‘Call Off The Search’ is a sultry soul track which shows off Josh’s undeniable vocal and songwriting talents.
The track was co-written with Maiday who also features in the video. It’s available as a free download from Josh’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/joshkumra
Here’s an acoustic session he recorded for The Mahogany Blog including a full length version of ‘Don’t Go’ and ‘Call Off The Search.’
