Purple Revolver caught up with Casper from Efterklang ahead of their Liverpool Music Week slot in the o2 academy.
Purple Revolver: Hey dude, how are you?
Casper: I’m great thanks.
Purple Revolver: Approaching 10 years as a band in December. Whats the secret to your longevity?
Casper: Being great friends is a must if you are to make any band last the distance. We always talk to each other when we have problems which is a good thing to have, and not letting issues boil up until they explode. I think communication is half the battle. Plus you have to love your music and stay creative.
Purple Revolver: How is your tour going?
Casper: Yeah it is going very good, I have not had much time to see anything but the inside of a plane as yet. We’re in the States touring though which is great. We are currently in Atlanta which is an awesome place to play and then we are moving on to Washington DC. So yeah, many exciting things ahead.
Purple Revolver: Are you guy’s looking forward to performing at Liverpool Music Week?
Casper: Yes very much so, it will be our first time in Liverpool and I have heard many great things about the people and crowds. Very excited.
Purple Revolver: We caught you guy’s performing at Standon Calling, did you enjoy that festival?
Casper: Yes we enjoyed ourselves tremendously, it was a great festival. It has to be one of the cleanest, best run music events we have been to. We are hoping to do it again soon.
Purple Revolver: When you guy’s were younger which bands inspired you?
Casper: I was always influenced by German elecrtonic music, so Kraftwerk were a big influence for me. In Copenhagen growing up there was a few big bands that used to make the journey over, and I used to catch them. But there were so many, like Kashmir. Then it was Radiohead. Later on it was Thomas Knak from Opiate and Bjórk who changed our world. Today we listen to all kinds of stuff. Amongst that, Alog, Animal collective, Clogs, Colleen and Joanna Newsom.
Purple Revolver: Do you remember your first ever gig as a band?
Casper: Yes, I had to organise it, in a local bar in Copenhagen. Our band has a prehistory in various young rock bands and school bands, but we came together from out of the countryside in a big city. In the very beginning, we thought we were going to play a kind of grunge-rock. I am glad that didn’t work out.
Purple Revolver: Finally, we have just had a Bill Murray week on PurpleRevolver, what is your favourite Bill Murray movie?
Casper: I would have to say Ghostbusters, probably the first one. Although all of them are pretty great.
