Come one, come all! This October sees Oxfam’s month-long music festival ‘Oxjam’ return to the UK, bringing unique and diverse acts to the Country – all in the aid of charity.
Whether you’re into dance, rock, classical or jazz, this event has it all.
Proudly holding the title of the UK’s biggest ever festival line-up, the party is back to brighten rainy October skies and soften the blow of the end of summer.
Having already enjoyed six triumphant years, Oxjam is organized by volunteers and showcases hundreds of events across the UK to raise money for those in poverty stricken areas across the globe.
Having fun and raising money at the same time – sounds perfect, right? We certainly think so, and that’s precisely why Oxjam is where we’re headed, glasses raised high.
Since the festival began in 2006, Oxjam has raised more than £1.75 million for those in need, and has put on over 3,500 events nationwide.
It’s onwards and upwards from here! To launch the festival, past events have seen the likes of Jarvis Cocker, Fatboy Slim and Basement Jaxx jump on board to perform intimate gigs in Oxfam shops, all in the name of giving.
It seems everyone wants to get a piece of the charitable action. With industry partners including LiveNation, Xfm and Festival Republic, Oxjam is going from strength to strength.
So, to kick it all off, ‘Oxjam Brixton’ (just one of Oxjam’s many branches) is blessing the South of London this week with a unique fundraiser.
Giving us just a taster of what’s to come in October, the Oxjam Brixton takeover team are headed to The Dogstar in Brixton this Wednesday 11th July.
Returning with their hugely popular ‘Sounds Familiar Music Quiz’, the team will come equipped with renowned DJ’s and witty, quizzical banter.
Having made appearances at Glastonbury, V Festival, The Big Chill and Secret Garden Party, ‘Sounds Familiar’ is more than a regular among festival crowds.
Described by Time Out as, “London’s best and most raucous music quiz”, it’s time to get your thinking caps on, and get quizzing! With gig tickets among the prizes for the winners, this night is definitely worth checking out.
Who needs an excuse to go out and get foolishly inebriated with their friends? We do.
Because every time the pin code is entered to buy yet another Magners, the guilt creeps in. That’s why Oxjam is at the very top of our to-do list.
Now, when asked, “have you been drinking again?” you can hold your head high and slur, “yes…and it’s all for charity.”
