London punks Male Bonding are descending on Manchester as part of the In The City celebrations, which kicks off this week.

The lads are causing waves with their first full release, Nothing Hurts and Purple Revolver caught up with them to ask them about their love of classic Nickelodeon cartoons and their travels.

For more info about In The City, check out the official site: http://www.inthecity.co.uk/

This is what the John Arthur Webb from the band had to say:

Purple Revolver: Firstly, where are you, what’s happening and what’s the view like where you are?

John: We are currently sat in some hotel room. We are twiddling our thumbs. The view is not worth mentioning.

Purple Revolver: We hear that you lads went through a phase of watching Nickelodeon classic Are You Afraid Of The Dark (a personal favourite of ours) – any favourite episodes?

John: Well we watched loads of the Nick classics when we were stranded in LA, this John: was after that Volcano cloud in April and all planes were down. It was actually the 20th of April – 4/20- a special day as this wiki page illustrates:

I can’t really remember any of the episodes to be honest. There was one based around a scary thing in a school swimming pool, that was pretty cool. It’s all a bit hazy…

Purple Revolver: Did you learn any vital life lessons from The Midnight Society you could share with our readers?

John: Never grow up and don’t mess with clowns.

Purple Revolver: You’ve been gigging with some pretty fucking awesome bands, we imagine you must have met a nice collection of oddballs. Who’s been the best person you’ve met?

John: We recently recorded with Rivers from Weezer- that was amazing. We have always been big fans of theirs and he was a really cool, creative guy.

Purple Revolver: The worst?

John: I am not in the game to slag people off. People are weird, it‘s as simple as that.

Purple Revolver: Tell us something scandalous. Go…

John: No. wait… Last night Robin was propositioned by a guy called chip, who was a very strange character indeed. It sounded like he was covering his junk with half an orange peel and a piece of string. Make sense of that.

Purple Revolver: We’re loving Nothing Hurts, it reminds us of long Summers in the 90’s, blasting grunge out of dodgy tape players and watching Nickelodeon. Fancy telling us the stories behind some of the tunes?

John: All of the songs are about a mythical centaur type creature with a long beard and a peanut for a head.

Purple Revolver: You do a pretty lovely duet with The Vivian Girls on the album, should you get the chance to collaborate with anyone else on a song who’d be on the wish list?

John: We have always wanted to work with Buzzcocks, that would be unbelievable. We have started covering Bodies by the Sex Pistols, but I can’t imagine John Lydon would ever be up for joining us on that one.

Purple Revolver: What are your tour survival skills?

John: Earplugs are imperative, and plenty of mineral water. It’s important to keep hydrated.

Purple Revolver: We’re collecting different detention stories off bands. If you could share a sweet little tale about something you got detention for back in school we’d much appreciate it!

John: An art teacher pinned me up against a wall and pulled back to punch me in the face for ripping a painting off the wall. He didn’t. Kevin and Robin were in a juvenile detention centres during their school years.
