The Carter IV will be dropping June 21st, but fans can look forward to an acoustic set of the Cash Money rapper’s catalogue of hits ahead of the release date.
MTV Unplgged has hosted an array of superstars over the decades. From Dylan, Nirvana, Clapton and REM, the gigs have allowed fans worldwide an intimate encounter that can’t be recreated on arena tours.
In 2001 Jay-Z became the first rapper since LL and De La Soul did a special Yo! Unplugged Rap to get the acoustic treatment, but ten years later Weezy will hope to recreate Jigga Man’s success.
Amy Doyle, MTV EVP of Music and Talent told MTV News that, ‘Lil Wayne is an amazing choice for Unplugged as he is at hop-hop’s forefront – leading a new generation of artists whose appeal spans across music genres and playlists. Lil Wayne’s skills, influences and catalogue are a powerful addition to the legacy of artists who have rocked the Unplugged stage.’
Lil Wayne Unplugged will air across MTV2, MTV and MTV.com on June 12 at 9pm in the States.
UK fans may have to wait a little longer for MTV to air the performance.
