Ed Sheeran might be the hardest working man in music. The 21-year-old Yorkshire native already has eight independent EP’s under his guitar strap and an upcoming debut release, + (that’s the name of the album peeps), to be released on Atlantic Records.
The singer/songwriter earned his stripes the old fashioned way, picking up sticks, guitar on his back and heading for the golden pavements of London at the tender age of 18. Once in the big city he set about annihilating James Morrison’s one year gig record (200) by playing over 312 gigs.
The gigging got him noticed and led to touring with Just Jack and Example, but fed up with the Big Smoke, Ed traded pavements for sidewalks and hopped on a plane for LA.
Hitting the open mic nights in the City of Angels, he was spotted by Jamie Foxx and was invited to record with him at the rapper/actor/comedian’s house.
In 2011 Sheeran released No.5 Collaborations Project, mixing his smooth guitar playing and mellow voice with the raw lyrics of Grime. The album featured Wiley, Devlin and Ghetts amongst others and stormed to No.1 on the iTunes chart, without any promotion.
All the hard work paid off; in 2011 Atlantic Records snapped up the young Englishman and will release his debut LP later this year.
Until then catch Ed at Liverpool Sound City Festival on Thursday 19th May… http://www.liverpoolsoundcity.co.uk/Tickets
