Britain’s premier electronic music tastemaker Annie Mac returns with her definitive selection of the year’s biggest tracks; Annie Mac Presents 2014.
Annie Mac Presents, or AMP as it’s commonly known, is now a multi-platinum compilation series. It is a chance for Annie to create something timeless from a year’s worth of music, to celebrate the artists that she has played on the radio and in the clubs throughout the year. Artists such as Duke Dumont, Rudimental, and Disclosure were first supported by Annie Mac, both on her Radio 1 shows and by Annie inviting them to perform to huge audiences at AMP events all over the country, and they’ve all gone on to major mainstream success. In fact, the dance music she has championed on her Radio 1 flagship show and at her AMP events in 2014, has begun to take over the world.
AMP 2013’s compilation epitomised this, artists featured are now charts fixtures – most notably Route 94, whose number 1 single and global smash ‘My Love’ was discovered by Annie and exclusively debuted on her album. The last two installments of Annie Mac Presents have topped the iTunes albums chart and 2014’s selection is set to be even more popular. It features 8 #1 singles and 14 top 10’s all supported by Annie from the likes of Duke Dumont, Keisza, Sigma and Clean Bandit, alongside more underground tunes from the likes of Jamie XX, FKA Twigs, Caribou, Nautic and more. Crucially for Annie as a champion of new music, there are also four exclusive tracks personally selected by Annie. These exclusive tracks (three hyperlinked here) from Tiga, Alex Adair, Lapsley and Hannah Wants and Chris Lorenzo are already gaining support online and across dancefloors around the country proving to be essential tracks for this year and next.
Annie’s AMP live events series has grown from humble beginnings at the small third room in London’s Fabric nightclub, to curating stages at Miami’s Ultra music festival, SXSW in Austin and Creamfields, Lovebox and Bestival in the UK. The longstanding residency at Camden’s KOKO sells out without Annie releasing a line up. AMP will hit the road in the autumn accompanied by Hannah Wants, Tourist, Lxury and AMP resident and fellow Radio 1 DJ Monki for the annual tour which will be head out to some of the biggest venues across the UK. It culminates in a massive party at London’s Brixton Academy in December which is already sold out.
Annie’s personal journey as a DJ reached new highs this Summer, having owned the Sonic stages at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, she fulfilled a life-long dream of performing at Leeds and Reading festivals and smashed main stage sets at Global Gathering, We Are FSTVL and Parklife.
As well as globetrotting as a DJ, Annie Mac presented and executive produced a television series for Channel 4 called ‘Superstar DJs: With Annie Mac’ – 6 programmes documenting the meteoric rise of the DJ in popular culture, a series which picked up more viewers than any other C4 programme put in the same slot before – something that Annie Mac is clearly beginning to experience herself. With her DJ profile skyrocketing and the music she champions more ubiquitous than ever before, never has Annie Mac’s AMP compilation felt more definitive and reflective of the popular music zeitgeist.
