The Voice live shows are in full swing, Tom Jones has been known to drop a name or two and recall how he sang with Elvis Presley – now he has revealed he was in line to play James Bond.
The iconic crooner claims he was in the running for the role of the world’s best loved secret agent, until it was decided he was too famous.
Tom made the confession after being asked about his regrets, he said that he would have liked to take acting more seriously.
He missed out to the lesser known Sean Connery, but the 71-year-old has since had several turns on the screen. Playing himself in Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks! and appears in King of the Teds, a new TV drama.
Tom said: “The only thing I regret is that I’d like to have had a pop at acting when I was younger.”
“My name was up for James Bond at one time, but producer Cubby Broccoli apparently said I was too well known for people to believe it.
“I have a tendency to overact,” he said. “It’s a Welsh thing.”
