The DC FanDome is in full swing, with multiple announcements and trailers being released. The latest, and most anticipated, is the first full length teaser to the Matt Reeves directed The Batman.

The latest interpretation of the Dark Knight is set to focus on a younger Batman, earlier in his crime-fighting career, with a story that centres on the detective side to the character, which we haven’t properly seen outside of the animated films.

The brand new trailer gives nothing away, but treats fans to a variety of great content, including a better look at the new armoured Bat-suit, bat-mobile, and offers a glimpse of a couple of the caped crusader’s iconic villains and allies.

The star-studded cast include Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, with Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Zoё Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin and Andy Serkis as Alfred.

The trailer shows off what kind of Batman we will be getting, displaying a far more grittier, mysterious and darker version than we’ve seen before, with a gothic edge that would make Tim Burton proud.

It also makes good use of Nirvana’s Something in the Way, mixed with Michael Giacchino’s epic Batman theme, which was previously unveiled in the short Daredevil-like costume reveal.

The movie was an unfortunate casualty of the worldwide pandemic, which forced production to be delayed. Thankfully, they are back at work and we are grateful for this first proper look.

Time will tell, but the movie looks great and exactly what DC Comics fans want to see. For fans of the Bat-Family, this is certainly one to keep an eye on if the trailer is anything to go by.

The Batman will be released in cinemas 1st October 2021.
