Not even the sweltering heat of London in July will deter the fanatical Twilight fans and yesterday was a particularly sticky Thursday that saw them out in full force to greet the cast for the UK premiere of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
Sure, some fans may have been carted away by paramedics, before the stars had even set foot on the red carpet we might add, but that is just a small price the TwiHards are willing to pay to be a part of the phenomenon.
Vamping it up on the red carpet were the stars of the film, Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed, who play “vegetarian” vamps, Alice Cullen and Rosalie Hale.
They were joined at the premiere by co-stars Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), Xavier Samuel (Riley Biers) and Alex Meraz (Paul) and Booboo Stewart (Seth) who got the girls screaming and forgetting all about their absent vampire and werewolf.
The films stars were also joined on the red carpet by TV presenters Gok Wan and Holly Willoughby, actors Danny Dyer and Clive Owen and singers Joe Jonas, Kelly Rowland and Paloma Faith were dressed to impress.
Director David Slade said he was “overwhelmed and terrified” by the massive number of people who had turned up to support the film “The reason why I took it was because I knew I could never do anything like it again. I know it’s vampires and werewolves but it’s an unapologetic love story,” he added.
The newest Twilight heartthrob, Xavier Samuel 26, who plays bad boy Riley in Eclipse, chatted about getting to know his co-stars and says he has been jamming to get to know them “We do play together when we get the chance. Especially Jackson and Rob.”.
Sadly for fans though it doesn’t look like they will be taking to the road anytime soon with Samuel adding “They play the guitar but we’re not going to start a boy band or anything like that.”
Fans travelled from far and wide and even camped out overnight in Leicester square just to get up close to their favourite celebs.
Some fans had boasted over a 34 hour wait and many expressed how disappointed they were at the absence of Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and especially Robert Pattinson with t-shirts saying “ROBBED” to show their heartbreak.
But as the wolf pack descended upon the red carpet to titillate the patient TwiHards, video messages from the much missed trio were released to ear piercing screams.
“Sorry I can’t be here tonight, but I hope you have a fantastic time with the rest of the cast this evening.” Pattinson recited, continuing with a word of thanks to the fans before closing with the standard, “hope you enjoy the film as much as we enjoyed making it.”.
Pattinson and Stewart both stated work commitments to get a sick note from the premiere but Lautner offered no reason for his absence other than “scheduling conflicts”.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opens Nationwide on July, 9.
