Sydney Lumet, the prolific director, has died age 86 of Lymphoma.

One of the true great directors of the 20th Century, Sydney was still behind the camera well into his eighties. He worked with a who’s who of acting legends, including Al Pacino and Michael Caine.

The Serpico, 12 Angry Men and Dog Day Afternoon man was nominated over 50 times in various Oscar’s categories, but only ever received a life time achievement award in 2005.

His films offered complicated themes and famously focused on the gritty side of New York City.

Remember the great man and pay tribute by checking out the infamous ‘Mad as Hell’ scene from Network below.
