For many cinephiles, it’s hard to believe that it’s been 35 years since Harrison Ford headlined the sci-fi classic Blade Runner (1982).
Having reprised his iconic roles as Indiana Jones and Han Solo in recent years, the veteran Hollywood star is now stepping back into the shoes of Blade Runner Rick Deckard for the long-awaited sequel Blade Runner 2049.
However the Star Wars and Indy legend will be sharing responsibilities in this outing with one of the biggest actors in film right now in the macho Ryan Gosling (Drive, La La Land). The pair feature prominently in the sequel’s new full length trailer.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Arrival) and set three decades after the original film’s timeline, the plot sees Gosling play an LAPD officer who uncovers a long-buried secret that could threaten the future of mankind. His discovery eventually leads him on a quest to track down Deckard who has not been seen for thirty years.
As well as Gosling, the rest of the film's impressive new cast also includes Oscar-winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club, Suicide Squad), Robin Wright (House of Cards, Wonder Woman), Dave Bautista (Skyfall, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Ana de Armas (Knock Knock, Hands of Stone), Mackenzie Davis (The Martian, Halt and Catch Fire), Lennie James (Snatch, The Walking Dead) and Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips, Grimsby).
With the exception of Ford and original director turned executive producer Ridley Scott, the only notable returnee from the 1982 film is Edward James Olmos who reprises his role as veteran Blade Runner Eduardo Gaff.
Blade Runner 2049 will be released in the UK on October 6th.
