March movies 2014 – Purple Revolver’s picks of what to see

We have been excited to March on the box office this month, with something for everybody – from action fans with the new Captain America movie and for the art house fans, Wes Anderson is in the house, well the Grand Budapest Hotel.

Here at Purple Revolver HQ, we have chosen the top films to see this month, so you can keep up to speed with the best of the silver screen.

Son of God – 5th March

Diogo Morgado stars as Jesus in this religious drama. The life story of Jesus is told from the moment of his humble birth, all the way through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection.

Also starring Amber Rose Revah and Sebastian Knapp, Son of God may not be for everyone. But there are few films similar to this, so it may well be worth a watch.

300: Rise of an Empire – 7th March

Sullivan Stapleton stars as Themistocles – the Greek general who leads the charge against the invading Persians, a force led by the mortal-turned-god Xerxes and Artemisia – the vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Directed by Noam Murro, this classical war spectacular promises unmissable action which perfectly portrays the epic event in all its glory.

The Grand Budapest Hotel – 7th March

It’s hard to know where to begin with the cast in this one. Ralph Fiennes, Edward Norton, Soairse Ronan and Bill Murray (to name but a few) star in this comedy that follows the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European Hotel.

Continuous dramas occur between the actors in this one, setting up a plot that could deem this the funniest film of the year so far.

Need for Speed – 12th March

Recently released from prison after being framed by a wealthy business associate, street racer Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul) joins a cross country race with only one thing in his mind – revenge.

As the race begins he gets a massive bounty placed upon him by an ex-partner who has knowledge of the plan – setting up a story that is sure to keep you strapped in tight.

A Long Way Down – 21st March

Aaron Paul stars in this one again playing the role of J.J. – one of four people who meet on New Year’s Eve. In order to help each other to deal with the difficulties in their lives, the newly-formed group of four decide to form a surrogate family.

Imogen Poots and Toni Collette also star in this comedy that highlights a humorous story that is most definitely not far from the truth.

The Muppets Most Wanted – 28th March

The world’s favourite furry friends decide to take a grand world tour, but when The Muppets find themselves wrapped up in a European jewel-heist lead by a Kermit the Frog look-alike, their tour takes a turn for the worse. No matter the plot, a return to the big screen for these guys is an unmissable event. With Ricky Gervais and a long list of all star cameos – you’re in for a treat.

Labor Day – 28th March

Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin pair in this romantic drama that reveals a slightly unsuspecting love. When single mum Adele and her son Henry offer a wounded man a ride home and a temporary place to stay, the town’s police begin their search for the escaped convict. When time gets short however, the mother and son must decide what to do before it’s too late.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – 28th March

Chris Evans returns as Captain America, otherwise known as Steve Rogers, as he struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. Good ole Cap’ must battle with a new threat from the past – the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.

A strong cast including Frank Grillo, Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson set this up to be another success from Marvel studios.
