For many film fans, the names ‘Annette Bening‘ and ‘Liverpool’ don’t exactly go hand in hand.
However the four-time Oscar-nominated star of Bugsy (1991), American Beauty (2000) and The Kids Are All Right (2010) and the scouse capital of Great Britain are coming together for a new film which depicts the true story of an unlikely romance.
Entitled Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool and filmed in specific parts of the city, the romantic biopic has premiered its official trailer.
Directed by Paul McGuigan (The Acid House, Victor Frankenstein), the film stars Bening as the real-life Hollywood actress Gloria Grahame who would embark on a secret romance with a young British writer in 1978.
After collapsing on stage, Grahame would be brought to Liverpool and spend time with her lover leading to a deep bond between the pair.
Jamie Bell plays Grahame’s lover Peter Turner with his Billy Elliot co-star Julie Walters cast as Peter’s mother. The rest of the ensemble includes Kenneth Cranham, Stephen Graham, Frances Barber and Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave.
Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool will be released in the UK on November 17th.
