Next month marks the 21st anniversary of the release of the popular Tomb Raider games which will make a lot of fans feel nostalgic (and old!).
Since then, there have been a number of game sequels and reboots about archaeological heroine Lara Croft as well as two smash hit films starring Hollywood heavyweight Angelina Jolie.
But now another talented and beautiful star is taking on the iconic role with Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, Jason Bourne) gearing up for the upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider.
The action adventure has premiered its official trailer online and promises a lot of action and spectacle from all involved.
Directed by rookie filmmaker Roar Uthaug (Escape, The Wave), the film explores the origins of Lara as we see her working a day job in London. But when she discovers that her father has gone missing on an island, she embarks on a worldwide quest to find him despite being inexperienced as an adventurer.
British actor Dominic West (The Wire, The Affair) plays Lara’s father Lord Richard with additional casting support coming from Walton Goggins (The Shield, Justified) as the villainous Father Mathias Vogel, Hannah John-Kamen (Happy Valley, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as Lara’s flatmate / best friend and Daniel Wu (The Man with the Iron Fists, Warcraft: The Beginning) as the ship captain who accompanies Lara on her journey.
Speaking about the role previously, Vikander told Entertainment Tonight about how different her portrayal of Lara is compared to Jolie’s.
“She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits. But we’ve stripped away all of her
experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet.”
Tomb Raider will be released in the UK on March 16th 2018.
