The proposed Top Gun sequel appears to be moving ahead, with screenwriter Justin Marks now adding his name to the project.

The scribe has previously collaborated with producer Jerry Bruckheimer on War Dogs, and is currently working on the live-action Jungle Book remake.

The Town writer Peter Craig penned an early draft of Top Gun 2, which Marks has been tasked with reworking.

Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role as Maverick, but the film’s development hit a snag in 2012 following the death of director Tony Scott.

Production companies Paramount and Skydance have stated that Top Gun 2 will “show the relevance of good old fashioned pilots in today’s high-tech, drone-centric war environment”.

Top Gun 2 is yet to receive a release date.
