The Inbetweeners 2 has achieved the second-biggest opening for a comedy in the UK.
The sequel, which follows the foursome’s exploits on a trip to Australia, raked in £2.75 million domestically upon its release on 6th August.
It claimed the record from its predecessor, The Inbetweeners Movie, which took £2.61 million in its first 24 hours in August, 2011.
Only Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King have taken more at the UK box office at launch.
Inbetweeners creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley said that fan pressure forced them to make a sequel following the success of the first film, but ruled out the possibility of a third instalment.
However, bookmakers Paddy Power believe that another sequel is odds-on, offering a price of 5/2 for a third movie to arrive by the end of 2018.
