Changes to the Star Wars Episode VII script have lead to Disney and Lucasfilm to revisit their open casting calls.
Disney have released a statement asking for a “40-something military man, a la Matt Damon in Elysium.” It is believed the company want a male in his forties who would be a skilled and broken reluctant hero.
It remains unclear what impact on the story this new character will have, but there is speculation that the age of the character means he could have appeared in the original trilogies.
It is reported that the extended cast search is due to a rewrite by J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan after they took over writing duties from Michael Arndt, who was suddenly dropped from from the film last month.
In a recent statement the studio said: “Director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy are casting the net far and wide, meeting actors in the U.S., the U.K. and Australia.”
