DeadFest is hitting the streets of Liverpool this Hallowe’en and we’re listing the top 5 types of zombies that you may find are wanting to eat you.

Here’s our run down of the top types of brain munchers in the movies…
5.) The Supernatural
These are your classic zombies. The dead rise from their graves and feast on the living. Because they’re dead, they have the advantage of being able to take some serious punishment before they can be taken down.
Remember, remove the head or destroy the brain.
Best film to see them in action? George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead (1968).
Romero is the man many credit as creating the typical zombie that we know and love today
4.) Intelligent Zombies
These flesh eaters are particularly scary as they still have the intelligence to use weapons such as blunt objects or even guns, removing the key human advantage in the spread of an infection.
They can also operate machinery and communicate with one-another, meaning they can co-ordinate their attacks!
Notable example? The Resident Evil games. The first few instalments which live in the halls of fame of the Playstation One were notoriously tense and nail biting. And later instalments featured hoards of zombies wielding all sorts of weapons making the living dead a living nightmare.
3.) I Am Legend
Here we’re referring more to the classic book by Richard Matheson than the Will Smith film., which still has its merits but These zombies again are intelligent but still retain their use of language.
Robert Neville believes himself to be the sole survivor of a zombie pandemic. He goes out in the day and gathers resources he needs to survive. But at night his house is visited by the infected, people he use to know in his neighbourhood. They climb onto his roof eerily tell him to give up and join them.
These zombies are admittedly vampires as well as zombies, as they can’t venture into the daylight but do eat people but they get a place on the list because of how cool they are.
2.) Nazi Zombies
What do people hate more than Nazis? Nazis Zombies. The idea that something we regard as evil to begin with coming back from the dead to have another go is a great concept.
Watch out for high ranking SS officer zombies as these seem to take charge of the others. Kill the leader and you can hopefully handle the rest.
Nazi zombies have been featured in many films over the years such as Oasis of the Zombies, Dead Snow and War of the Dead. Many people will know them from the Call of Duty games.
1.) Invincible Zombies
That’s right, they can’t be killed. You can shoot them, cut them, run them over and they still keep coming. The only way to destroy them is to burn them and this releases a contagious gas which can infect survivors!
These zombies were featured in George Romero’s The Return of the Living Dead, and introduced the concept of zombies eating brains as oppose to just flesh. In the film this is said to be the only way for the infected to alleviate the pain of being dead.
But just imagine for a moment of hoard of zombies you can’t kill swarming a building you’ve taken refuge in. Truly terrifying.
So they’re your top 5 zombies. Here you can watch the entire Night of the Living Dead on Youtube. Amazingly the film is in the public domain which means anyone can do what they like with it.
So if you haven’t seen it you now have no excuse!
