Pirates of the Caribbean 5 will be released in theatres in July, 2017.
Walt Disney Pictures has confirmed that the Johnny Depp-fronted sequel will do battle with the likes of Fantastic Four 2 and Despicable Me 3 at the box office that summer.
Titled ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’, the fifth Pirates film was originally scheduled to set sail next year, but was shelved due to scripting and budgetary concerns.
Norwegian directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg will helm the project, with Depp set to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow and Jerry Bruckheimer overseeing the film as producer.
Catch Me If You Can scribe Jeff Nathanson will provide a screenplay for ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’.
Depp last appeared on screen as the wise-cracking swashbuckler in 2011’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which saw his character searching for the Fountain of Youth.
The Pirates of the Caribbean series has raked in more than $3.7 billion at the worldwide box office since its first instalment dropped anchor in 2003.
