A strong British cast has been announced for the new film adaptation of Dad’s Army.
Based on the hit BBC sitcom (1968-1977), the lead roles of Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Wilson have been filled by Toby Jones and Bill Nighy.
Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is cast as glamourous journalist Rose, a new character created for the film.
The rest of the main platoon members have also been confirmed with veterans Tom Courtenay, Bill Paterson and Michael Gambon playing the roles of Corporal Jones, Private Frazer and Private Godfrey respectively.
Younger actors Blake Harrison and Daniel Mays have been cast as Privates Pike and Walker with additional support coming from Mark Gatiss, Sarah Lancashire, Alison Steadman and Annette Crosbie.
Johnny English Reborn director Oliver Parker will helm the film with Dad’s Army creator Jimmy Perry working as executive producer.
Filming begins in Yorkshire later this month.
