Michael Fassbender is being linked with the lead role in Danny Boyle’s biopic inspired by the life of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

The part recently went up for grabs after Christian Bale dropped out of the project, reportedly admitting that he was miscast.

Leonardo DiCaprio was previously linked with the role, a move that would have seen him reunite with The Beach director Boyle, but chose to take a hiatus from acting instead.

The X-Men: Days of Future Past star is now the favourite to play the technology pioneer, according to Variety.

Based on Walter Isaacson’s 2011 biography Steve Jobs, the film is scripted by Social Network screenwriter Aaron Sorkin and produced by Sony Picture.

Seth Rogen is believed to be the frontrunner to play Jobs’s fellow Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Jobs’s life was turned into a Hollywood movie as recently as last year, with Ashton Kutcher playing the entrepreneur in Jobs, a film that divided critics.
