Warner bros. have released the official trailer to Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film.

Fans of the filmmaker have been eagerly waiting for his next instalment since the reception to his last film was mixed.

The trailer reveals some snappy dialogue, dodgy 70s sideburns and a plethora of film stars, such as Owen Wilson and Benicio Del Toro popping up here and there. It’s also very funny and seems to be a departure from PTA’s previous two films which had very serious tones.

Staring Joaquin Phoenix, who collaborated with PTA in The Master; this latest outing sees a return to the 1970s, a setting he previously explored and received critical acclaim with 1997’s boogie nights.

The late Philip Seymour Hoffman was a frequent collaborator with PTA and had appeared in all but one of his films before his death. He will be sadly missed by many fans.

This is the first film adaption of a Thomas Pynchon novel that the author was allowed, so the pressure is on Paul all the more to deliver the goods.
