Harry Potter director David Yates is reportedly in line to helm spinoff movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The project will mark the screenwriting debut of series creator JK Rowling, telling the story of Newt Scamander.
Fantastic Beasts will take place in New York roughly 70 years before the events of Harry Potter, but is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the wizarding saga.
Yates, who directed four entries in the series, starting with 2007’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is close to reaching an agreement with Warner Bros to join the spinoff, according to Variety.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set for release on 18th November, 2016.
