Fast & Furious star Gal Gadot has been cast in the lucrative role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel; Superman vs. Batman.
The Israeli-born actress, who has also starred in Knight & Day and Date Night, landed the part ahead of fellow contenders Gina Carano and Olga Kurylenko.
The follow-up to this year’s superhero blockbuster will see Superman (Henry Cavill) join forces with fellow DC Comics hero Batman (Ben Affleck) as the pair battle to save the world.
On the surprise casting, director Zack Snyder said: “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favourite in the DC Universe.
“Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role.
“We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
Gadot will make her bow as Wonder Woman when Superman vs. Batman is released in cinemas during summer 2015.
