After months of speculation, fans of the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey will be pleased to hear that the coveted roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele have finally been filled.
Announcing the news on Twitter, author EL James tweeted about the castings of Newcastle-born actor Charlie Hunnam and American actress Dakota Johnson expressing her delight about the news.
She said: “I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.
“The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Hunnam is best known for his recent role in Guillermo Del Toro’s monster hit Pacific Rim and for acclaimed US series Sons of Anarchy. British fans will also recognise him from UK television shows like Byker Grove and Queer as Folk.
Johnson is an American actress who recently appeared in the short-lived US series Ben and Kate and has also starred in established films like The Social Network, 21 Jump Street and The Five Year Engagement.
It was originally rumoured that Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke would play Anastasia yet disappointingly that news has been considered false.
The Fifty Shades of Grey film will be directed by Nowhere Boy filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson with its release date scheduled for August 1st 2014.
