Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that he has been cast as DC Comics villain Black Adam in a movie adaptation of Shazam.

The WWE star broke the news on Twitter, declaring that it is his “honour” to take on the role.

Johnson – AKA The Rock – previously revealed that he was attached to the project, but was yet to learn whether he would be playing the lead role of Captain Marvel or his nemesis.

Shazam is believed to be a priority for Warner Bros after 2016’s Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, along with a Wonder Woman solo film and a Flash/Green Lantern team-up project.

All three movies are expected to tie in with 2017’s Justice League, the groundwork for which is being laid by Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in the works for 2016.

Shazam tells the story of a young boy who has the ability to transform into the all-powerful superhero Captain Marvel, who possesses the abilities of six mythological beings.
