Sony Pictures and Imagine Entertainment’s movie adaptation of Dan Brown novel Inferno will begin shooting in April next year.
Tom Hanks will reprise his Da Vinci Code role as Robert Langdon in the new instalment, with Ron Howard set to return to the director’s chair.
Hanks last appeared as the Harvard professor and renowned symbologist in 2009’s Angels & Demons, the first entry in Brown’s line of books.
Inferno is the fourth novel in the series, preceded by The Lost Symbol, which Sony Pictures has chosen to pass over for the time being.
The book finds Langdon attempting to piece his life together after awakening in hospital with amnesia. He teams up with a doctor named Sienna Brooks, with whom he investigates a mystery connected to Dante poem Inferno and a global plague.
Inferno has been assigned a tentative release date of December 18, 2015.
