Paul Feig’s all-female recreation of the classic 1984 comedy Ghostbusters is not without it’s controversy among fans of the original movie, despite the fact that the new movie has yet to be released.

Both Feig and Melissa McCarthy (who stars in the remake) have spoken out regarding the many premature naysayers of the flick. It turns out that they now have an important fanatic by their sides: Dan Aykroyd.

Upon watching an advanced screening of the remake, Aykroyd hopped onto Facebook to express his praises last week. “Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films,” wrote Aykroyd, who starred in and wrote the original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2.

Aykroyd went on to write, “I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!”

The legendary comic also has a hand in the creation of the upcoming remake, serving as an executive producer for the film, he also makes a cameo, alongside former co-star Bill Murray.

Ghostbusters hits cinemas on July 15.
