Bridesmaids flimmaker Paul Feig has emerged as the frontrunner to direct the on-again-off-again Ghostbusters 3.
Sony Pictures is reworking the sequel with an all-female cast in mind and Feig is the studio’s favourite to oversee the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ivan Reitman, who helmed the original Ghostbusters, was set to return for the long-awaited third instalment, but dropped out of the running following the death of Harold Ramis (Egon Spengler in the first two movies).
Reitman remains attached to the venture as producer.
Dan Aykroyd is expected to feature in Ghostbusters 3 in some capacity, but Bill Murray’s involvement remains uncertain.
Sony is yet to open formal negotiations with Feig regarding the third Ghostbusters instalment.
