Top Liverpool watering hole The Shipping Forecast is back on the beat after an extensive refurbishment and now promises even more delights for its faithful followers.
A firm favourite with music fans, the freshly varnished venue boasts a brand new ‘Top Deck’, laser-sharp live music, cutting-edge cocktails and some of the best munch on Merseyside.
A one-stop-shop for fun, feasting and frolics, The Shipping Forecast will take you from dawn to dusk.
Whether you’re starting the day with a coffee, in for a lazy weekend lunch with friends, indulging in some post work cocktails or planning on dining followed by dancing – this joint is the perfect stomping ground.
The brand new mezzanine floor or ‘Top Deck’ adds another floor to the former warehouse site with sandblasted walls revealing the original brickwork.
Boasting a fully stocked bar, not to mention a banquet style dining table constructed from old cargo crates, it’s the perfect spot for large parties to kick back whilst checking out the action unfolding below.
Downstairs, low-slung nautical lights nod to the docks that lie just a few streets away. Steel staircases and metal pillars lend industrial cool, with neutral reclaimed sofas, weathered tables and vintage lamps to soften the edges.
Creating a fitting focal point for a bar with its finger firmly on the cultural pulse of the city, a feature wall showcases regularly rotating artwork from local artists and galleries.
As to expect from a bustling bar, the drinks list will draw many devotees. Debuting post refurb, the dedicated cocktail list includes a ‘Lolita’ Margarita with honey, Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, lime and bitters, a ‘Sierra Bravada’ – a deadly concoction of Tanqueray Gin, Sierra Nevada Beer, Gomme sugar syrup and lemon; and the ‘St Lawrence’ – with Marker’s Mark bourbon and maple syrup.
Draft, craft and bottle beers come from around the globe, such as the US Blue Moon Wheat Beer, the award-winning Freedom Pilsner, Odell Cutthroat porter and Brains Brewery’s Bragging Rights pale ale.
Fuss free fare courtesy of Ruby Jean’s Diner provides American food inspired by adventures across the Atlantic. ‘Snack & Share’ dishes such as the carnivore calling Meat Basket or Veggie Baskets complete with chips and dips or chilli-topped Nachos Grande.
Fancy a lunchtime sandwich? You’ll never get bored with a selection that includes Ruby’s Homemade fish fingers or NY Deli with pastrami, sauerkraut & emmental.
Climb the staircase to burger heaven with a sixteen-strong selection including the classic ‘Ruby Jean’s with smoked bacon, cheese, mushrooms & onion rings; fried egg & peanut butter or the ‘Shroomaloomi’ with flat mushrooms & grilled halloumi. Get double the trouble on Tuesdays when all burgers are buy one get one free.
Dishes such as Hot and Kickin’ Fried Chicken and Mac’n’Cheese and the Chocolate Chip Cookie & Ice Cream Sandwich complete the retro ride across culinary Americana.
Unsurprisingly, weekends are big at The Shipping Forecast – with Ruby Jean’s serving up boozy brunches such as The Weekender with a ‘Mother Mary’ cocktail of Vodka, Shiraz, tomato, lemon juice, spices and kisses. Things go British for ‘Sunday Service’ however, with proper roasts such as Roast 21 Day Aged Beef, Oven Roast Shropshire Chicken or Cashew or Nut Roast – served with all the trimmings.
If music makes the world go round, then the Shipping Forecast constantly spins. As well as a steady flow of distinguished DJs including David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan and Miguel Campbell, a series of resident nights keep the revelers reeling. Hip Hop is top on Thursday night ‘Juicy’ and out with the old and in with the New Blood Club – showcasing upcoming local talent once a month.
For those that beat to a different drum, Jonny Bongo takes to the mike every Monday for his quintessential quiz and Vintage Saturdays see theShipping Forecast transformed into a market full of long forgotten treasures.
