Now in its third year, Sunderland’s Split Festival has expanded massively for 2011.
Taking place across September 17th and 18th at Ashbrooke Sports Club in Sunderland, the festival will be showcasing some of the UK’s best loved bands. See below for details on how to buy discounted early bird tickets.
Established by Sunderland’s finest The Futureheads, who were recently seen tearing it up at Southport Rocks, the event hosts internationally known acts alongside the best rising new talent.
The welcome addition of a massive new marquee, which was used at Glastonbury guarantees that festival goers will remain dry and happy whatever the weather.
Saturday sees indie rock courtesy of The Drums, off-kilter alternative pop from The Mystery Jets, plus up and coming acts The Rifles, Little Comets, Dutch Uncles and Vinyl Jacket.
Sunday sees firm festival favourites The Charlatans headlining alongside homecoming heroes Frankie and the Heartstrings.
Grunge rockers Dinosaur Pile-Up also feature along with Ganglains and Futureheads’ side project Hyde and Beast.
Curated by The Futureheads’ guitarist Ross Millard, the Fringe Stage this year sees two days of performances from the best local and national acoustic acts.
Headline acts this year include Brit Award winner and twice Mercury nominated folktronica artist Beth Orton.
Michelle Stoddart from The Magic Numbers and and Jarvis Cocker endorsed act Withered Hand are also playing on the Saturday.
Sunday evening is rounded off with comedy presented by North East comedy night Laughing Penguin’s co-founder and resident MC, Tony Jameson.
Headlining the comedy tent will be Jason Cook, who has appeared on shows such as Russell Howard’s Good News, Dave’s One Night Stand, and was a guest on Chris Ramsey’s In Search of Happiness show for BBC Radio 4.
Local acts confirmed to perform include Andy Fury, Nick Cranston, Lee Kyle and Marc Smethurst, along with Laughing Penguin New Act of the Year, Richard Gadd.
Alongside the music and comedy plenty of food and drink stalls sourced from the local area will also be present.
