It’s a cold October afternoon walking down Upper Parliament Street. Traffic is hectic, but the sounds heard are not those of passing cars, instead the unmistakable pounding of bass which carries through the air as we approach Camp & Furnace, the venue for the most recent instalment of Chibuku Shake Shake.

We made the most of what would be the last cool air for the next six or seven hours, and ventured in, timing our arrival perfectly to catch both David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan’s set, and the latter part of Bonobo’s DJ set in the Camp.

It’s safe to say that both smashed it. Veteran DJ Rodigan stoked the Furnace crowd with his reggae infused performance – one which was superbly animated as per.

Bonobo, fresh from a slot at Warehouse Project the previous night, really got proceedings into full swing with a 90-minute DJ set at four, a set which unsurprisingly hypnotised the crowd into a permanent state of bliss.

The Furnace played host to what was a particular highlight of the day. DJ Barely Legal rolled through a set that played example to elements of jungle, garage and D&B, throwing tracks such as SBTRK’s ‘Wildfire’ in the mix to a rapturous reception.

Splitting the last hour of the night between the two main rooms, we caught the first half of Maya Jane Cole’s set in the Camp. Cole’s set expertly capped off the event, ensuring a crowd that had already bared witness to Bonobo, a tantalising Icarus set, and Cole’s alias Nocturnal Sunshine earlier in the day, were leaving with nothing but good vibes and a beaming smile.

Elsewhere, DJ EZ smashed through a set so plentiful on the bass it made it hard to see, let alone hear the barman serving us a can of lukewarm Red Stripe.

Furnace by name and furnace by nature, the sweltering atmosphere was electric as always, as EZ rifled through a mix heavy on grime and garage, bringing the Furnace crowd to euphoria come 11pm.The change in time from the usual late finish, to a 2pm-11pm event was welcomed, with nearby Constellation on Greenland Street playing host to the event’s after-party.

It was yet another home run for Chibuku Shake Shake, which continued to demonstrate why it is so often the consistent staple event in the Liverpool house scene.
