Badass rockers Queens of the Stone Age have chosen an underground British artist to design their new album cover and artwork.
The Liverpool artist, known as Boneface, was handpicked by the band to illustrate the artwork for their latest album release, Like Clockwork.
Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme spotted his talent and had followed the artist’s work as he progressed.
The former University of Central Lancashire student has built a reputation for his unusual artwork which interweaves a unique blend of comic books, video games and 80s horror inspired imagery.
The 25-year-old also designed illustrations for the record’s packaging, lyric booklet and five animations to accompany the tracks.
He said: “The band’s management emailed me to tell me that Josh had followed my work for some time and wanted to throw me a bone.
“By that evening Josh had called and explained just how this bone would fit into a humungous and formidable exoskeleton of an artistic project.
“All of the artwork evolved as an extension of the title of the record, Like Clockwork.
“The title is ironic in the sense that the journey from album conception to creation was littered with hitches, spanners, and snares, yet it is exactly these obstacles which give you the gnarliest scars and the best stories.
“My own particular journey began by visiting the band in Burbank, California, during the recording process.
“This time allowed me to hear not only rough cuts of the tracks, but the musings of the guys that had put their blood, sweat and guts into creating them.
“I took every idea that I already had, mixed in the inspirations of the band and turned everything ten shades darker.
“Rather than reining me in, I think the opposite happened. Josh and the rest of the band were curious to find out just how twisted my illustrations are, and instead fostered a backdrop of lawlessness for me to work around.”
Like Clockwork, Queens of the Stone Age’s sixth studio album is out now.
