The Hickey Underworld mix-tape selection has been chosen by Jonas (guitars) and Yorgos aka Georgios (bass).

ZOMBI: SPIRIT ANIMAL
“I just finished the script for my first horror movie, and this record was all I listened to while writing. All the tracks are instrumentals: just drums, bass and keyboards. Fantastic stuff. It reminds me of John Carpenter’s old scores, like ‘Halloween’ or ‘Escape From New York’.”

BUCKETHEAD: COLMA
“Buckethead is the crazy guitarist who always wears a KFC bucket on his head -nobody knows what he looks like. Most of his records are pretty out-there, too, but this one is very sweet, laid-back and melancholic; the perfect Sunday morning bath soundtrack. Oh, and my Dad likes it too, which is weird.”

TODAY IS THE DAY: WILLPOWER
“There are only eight real songs on it, and the production’s pretty thin, yet this is one of the most aggressive, scary records I’ve ever heard. Steve Austin uses vocal overdubs in a really unique way: he sounds like he’s possessed or something, even when singing about screwing German hookers (‘Many Happy Returns’). My Saturday night going-out record.”

SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE – LUMINOUS LIGHT
“Sometimes I wish I was a shaman, standing on the edge of a cliff, staring at the sun. Unfortunately, I live in this grey city called Antwerp, so all I can do is put this record on instead. ‘Luminous Light’ a colon cleansing for the soul; the songs sound so simple and effortless, you’d almost forget they’re being performed by some of the most talented motherfuckers around.”

HIGH ON FIRE – BLESSED BLACK WINGS
“Produced by Steve Albini; the musical equivalent of actually being on fire. Combine a furious, Motörhead-style speed trip with a spaced-out swamp vibe à la Black Sabbath, and this is what you get: High On Fire, loud-mouthed, big-balled metal gods. Albini perfectly brilliantly captures the band’s pure intensity, making this one of the most heavy albums ever recorded.”

BODYCOUNT – BODYCOUNT
“I just happen to love experimental avant-garde music – and what’s more daring than a concept album combining theatrical spoken word skits with divine metal anthems, topped off with Ice T’s hilariously vulgar lyrics? It truly must be bliss playing this entire opus with all-white-guy coverband.”
