This year, many of us will be spending Mother’s Day alone as Covid-19 guidelines has put a stop to mixing households and celebrating for yet another year.

Even though, like most of us, you may be separated from your mum this year, there are still some creative ways to ensure the day is as memorable as it can be.

The current coronavirus restrictions in England mean you can meet one other person from outside of your household, so here are some genius (covid-compliant) ideas that don’t take long to plan!

Have a picnic in the park

Now that March the 8th has rolled around and new rules have been updated, there is nothing stopping you from socialising outdoors with one other person outside your household. Now that Spring is officially here and the sunny days are returning, take a picnic to the park and spend some quality time with your mum. It cost’s nothing and is a perfect excuse to spend some much needed time out the house.

Watch a virtual performance together

Although we can’t get to the Theatre right now, performances can still be enjoyed from the comfort of your own sofa. Since the pandemic, streaming services have stepped up their game, and you can now enjoy performances from musicals to ballet shows. If you watch in sync with your mum over face time, it’ll be like you’re watching it in real time together.

Book something for after the 21st June

If there’s one thing we all need right now, it’s something to look forward to. Book a meal out or spa get away for you and your mum to enjoy once restrictions are lifted. You could send the booking confirmation in a card and give it to her as an extra Mother’s Day present.

Get Creative on Zoom

Zoom has been a lifeline over the pandemic and is now being used in a number of whacky and inventive ways to keep in touch with friends and family. While bars in the UK are still closed, a virtual cocktail date will have to do. Have fun hosting a virtual cocktail making class and get creative with concocting new recipes.

You could even bring the spa to your front room and have a virtual pamper night with your favourite face masks, body lotions, and hair products. Send some products to your mum to use in a pamper hamper and leave it on her front door as a surprise.

Write her a letter

The art of letter writing has not died out yet and adds a more thoughtful touch rather than just sending a text message. It’s an ideal way to show your mum just how much you care and tell her the heartfelt things that perhaps you wouldn’t normally say in person.

Send her a slideshow of your favourite memories together

Get together all of your happiest memories and put them together as a thoughtful gift. You could create a slideshow for her to watch on the day. If your mum is sentimental and prefers the thoughtful gifts, she will love this one.
