Dum Dum Girls singer Dee Dee Penny has spoken about the good fortune her band has experienced in finding themselves at the centre of a renaissance in the LA music scene.
The red lipped temptress is happy to admit she is at the centre of a great network of friends who are helping to rejuvenate the LA sound.
The ladies share friendships with a number of the bands that they have been pigeonholed with such as Male Bonding, Vivian Girls, Best Coast, Happy Birthday and Wavves.
Most bands would resist this type of labelling but Dee Dee is indifferent to the whole pigeonholing process and even embraces it. The band leader is happy for the shared success saying, “It’s great to see all your friends enjoying a bit of success.”
She also understands that there has been a definite shift in focus and taste to coincide with their rise from obscurity into the public gaze as she says, “Success has switched coasts. Last year it was about Brooklyn, this year it’s back to LA.”
Dee Dee seems quite relaxed about her new found fame saying, “I’m 27, and I’m the youngest in our band. We’re all aware that this could be our last shot at this. We’re not getting any younger, so we might as well enjoy it now.”
