This UN International Peace Day (21st September), leading peacebuilding organisation International Alert will be helping Londoners discover how they can contribute to peace, and have some fun along the way at their annual Talking Peace Festival.
Taking over House of Vans, a cultural hub on London’s South Bank, the festival will use creative ways to tackle the massive challenge of building everyday peace and highlight some inspirational work globally.
Among this year’s highlights will be:
Power of Peacebuilding: On the eve of the international Day of Peace, join Natasha Kaplinksy (Broadcaster), Harriet Lamb (CEO International Alert) and Ghana Rifai (Co-founcer of the Mobaderoon Network, Syria) for the launch night of the Talking Peace Festival, accompanied by drinks and canapés, invite only. 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on the 20th September – RSVP to communications@international-alert.org.
Peace in Progress: An interactive exhibition showing the everyday ways lasting peace is being achieved from Rwanda to Ukraine, through methods as simple as talking, sharing and playing. Visitors can then get involved too. They can take on the Tomato Trader Challenge, share a Place of Peace in London or even just have a break from the madness and play a game, running from 21st – 24th September. Conflict Café Syria: A popular dining experience that champions the idea of peace through food. This year, Conflict Café will highlight Syria, inviting diners to experience Syrian hospitality, breaking bread on communal tables and hearing from Syrians and experts in the region about the crisis that has now entered its sixth year, running from 21st – 23rd September, tickets can be purchased from www.grubclub.com/conflict-cafe.
Peace Talks: A panel discussion exploring the idea of safety after escaping violent conflict at home. Listen to experts and those who have experienced war in the Middle East delve into a tough topic on 21st September.
