Convention heavyweights MCM kicked of their annual circuit this year with a celebration of everything Anime at their Midland comic con.

Packing Telford’s International Centre on February 15th with comic book and anime enthusiasts gave their first convention of 2014 a real buzz of excitement that rivalled their flagship Manchester and London dates.

Many celebrity faces made an appearance including Full Metal Alchemist and Dragon Ball Z voice actor Vic Mignogna, who gave not one but two packed out panels, as well as Hattie Hayridge and Danny John-Jules who star as Hollie and Cat on the legendary British Sci-Fi comedy Red Dwarf.

The pair made their appearance amidst the filming of the shows first full-length series since their hiatus in 1999.

Actor Chris Barrie, who plays Rimmer, was unfortunately missed due to unforeseen circumstances, but with hints of what we can expect to see in the new series and charming stories from the show’s long running past the Red Dwarf panel was a huge success.

It was collector’s paradise on the day with specialist retailers Tokyo Toys and Manga Entertainment in attendance as well as countless comic specialists inhabiting the comic village.

But, those seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of collectors could find entertaining refuge at Robots Live, YU-GI-OH tournaments and even in the presence of League of Legends at the Esports stand.

A comic convention wouldn’t be complete without the cosplayers who represented in force this year.

With the offerings of some very accurate and more ambitious cosplays, many famous heroes and villains could be seen wandering around the convention hall all day in preparation for the Cosplay Showcase that concluded the day.

It was a triumphant beginning of the year for the MCM team and we can expect big things from their conventions this year.

MCM memorabilia and comic con in Birmingham is set to take place in Birmingham over March 22-23 with other dates to follow through out the year.
