Barclaycard Mercury Prize Nominations 2011: The Shortlist

Streamed live over the internet via Facebook for the first time this year, the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize nominations have been revealed.

Host Lauren Laverne unveiled the dozen acts on the shortlist today, at a ceremony at the Hospital Club, London.

One of the acts who made the list include previous winner PJ Harvey, who won the award a decade ago for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.

Adele, whose LP 21 is now one of the UK’s best selling albums makes the cut.

2009 winners Elbow are also present with this year’s Build a Rocket Boys.

Tinie Tempah rounds off an incredible tweleve months with his debut disc Disc-overy being nominated.

Katy B is also nominated in a list that saw acts who were predicted to be included such as Wild Beasts and Hurts missing.

In a surprise turn, classically trained pianist Gwylim Simcock also makes the grade.

Ghostpoet – Peanut Butter Blues and Melencholy Jam

King Creosote and Jon Hopkins – Diamond Mine

Anna Calvi – Anna Calvi

James Blake – James Blake

Metronomy – The English Riviera

Katy B – On a Mission

Elbow – Build a Rocket Boys

Tinie Tempah – Disc-overy

Gwilym Simcock – Good Days At Schloss Elmau

The winner will be announced on September 6th at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel London, hosted by Jools Holland.
