As you may know by now, we at Purple Revolver HQ, are into our comics and action figures, if it’s geeky, we’re onto it, so we love tuning in to the ACBA, (Articulated Comic Book Art) community and seeing what they do when it comes to recreating using simple action figures.
For those of you who may not know, ACBA is when you recreate a scene or shot from a comic or movie using action figures from the respective scene.
The great thing about these Articulated Comic Book Art recreations is that they’re all tangible shots, taken using no Photoshop at all, simply differently scaled action figures.
We’re relaunching this feature. Each week, we’re gonna be showcasing a brilliant shot from a member of the ACBA community.
This week, it’s a shot from David Sword. @Blastshield1138 on Instagram.
We reached out to him for a little behind the scenes on this shot featuring The Mandalorian and IG-11. Here is what David had to say about how this shot came to be and what resources he used:
“I’ve been doing this for about 4 years now, and I’ve learned so much from the ACBA group and a good friend Rick Pruitt (toyboxpix) and Mike Freisen (fantastic figures.) I typically shoot indoors with a Nikon D750 and a Tokina 100mm 2.8 lens.”
“I have a very basic setup, usually using a little puck light and moving the figures around as I use a slow shutter. My Mandalorian picture was actually the last picture I took during the setup. I had the Mandalorian figure and just got the IG-11 the day of the shot. It was intended to be my main shot, but, I put the 2 together and it ended up being my favorite from the set.”
It’s a really excellent shot, we’d like to thank David for sharing this shot and letting us feature it.
