Yorkshire’s riotous post-punks, LUMER have announced details for their anticipated debut Disappearing Act EP – out January 29th 2021.
In the years since forming, LUMER have worked to single out the flaws of our broken, modern-day society. Spitting the same venom as their exalted northern forefathers, the hull-based four-piece echo The Fall through gritty, razor-sharp observations that speak out against corrupt world leaders, online social pressures and the vacuous existence we each live to endure. Though often vocalised with a certain poetic romance, their brand-new Disappearing Act EP is the frothing condemnation of a dystopia that feels all but too close to reality.
Lead vocalist, Alex Evans: “The entire writing process felt incredibly easy. It takes, whoever can be bothered to listen, down a bitter road of different experiences and what we despise in the world. It talks of love, hate, hope and death, and ultimately the personal things that affects the majority of people’s lives.”
Deviating between past and present, with serrated vocals and thrashing guitars, ‘White Tsar’ and ‘First Is Too Late’ depicts the innerworkings of tyrannical, power-hungry leaders through the ages. ‘By Her Teeth’ swells into narrative-based account of a tumultuous relationship between an innocent girl and a murderously charmed man. ‘The Sheets’ spirals with the sadness of a broken heart and the juxtaposition between hatred and love. The eventual downtrodden title track, ‘Disappearing Act’ focuses on a man’s final days reflecting on his experiences with loss and profound emptiness. It’s a sobering sentiment of hopes and dreams diminished as he slips finally into oblivion.
Comprising of Alex Evans (vocals), William Evans (drums), Benjamin Jackson (guitars) and Benjamin Morrod (bass guitar), LUMER are a post- punk quartet hailing from Hull, Yorkshire. Initially nothing more than a procrastination project whilst studying together during sixth form college, the band have since featured on the cover of HERO Magazine and garnered support from major titles including The Face, Paper Magazine, Interview Magazine, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Fred Perry: Subculture, Louder Than War, So Young + many more.
With significant international press coverage, lead vocalist, Evans was invited to model for Portrait of a Performer – a stunning music-focused photography series shot by Hedi Sliman, the Creative Director of French luxury fashion brand, Celine. During his tenure at Celine, Slimane has launched many music-focused programs highlighting young, upcoming artists. He’s previously dressed and photographed other high-profile figures such as Courtney Love, Mark Ronson and Beck.
Naturally, such rapid momentum has sparked some impressive radio play and a year of performances across the UK and beyond. LUMER have since played a BBC Introducing live session at Maida Vale Studios and have appeared on major slots at Leeds’s Goldsounds Festival as well as two sold out shows at Left of the Dial Festival in Rotterdam. In 2019, the band supported London post-punk band, Crows on their nationwide tour across the UK and have since wrapped up their own nearly sold-out headline tour in France earlier this year.
LUMER’s debut Disappearing Act EP will be available digitally from January 29th 2021.
