Visionary Australian-born, LA-based trio Chase Atlantic welcome us into their twisted-pop, R&B-tinged world populated by dramatic contrasts of dynamics in ‘Triggered’ – their debut UK single, set to drop on 19th May.

Blurring the lines between the alt-pop-leaning songwriting and evocative guitar riffs of Tame Impala and The 1975, with the 80’s sounding instrumental parts and driving foot to the floor beats resembling the work of Kavinsky – Chase Atlantic flawlessly add agitated bass lines and auto-tuned drenched vocals – close to Future’s metallic sheen, Travi$ Scott warped effects and Kanye West’s ‘808s & Heartbreak’ icy synths and mournful air.

Singer Mitchel Cave’s croony vocals breath through the driving verses and haunt during the siren-laced hook. His confessional lyrics create a masterpiece where pop cultural references, include America’s favourite ride, Lincoln Town Car in the opening line and the hedonistic pursuit of a relationship – described as “Tarantino killing love” – on a chorus which strikes a lasting connection through a raw honesty which reveal the explicit truth about teenage life. Despite the wildly unrealistic setting the song dark theme and its emotional writing are more relatable than the self-absorbed indulgence typical of PBR&B artists.

Comprising of brothers Mitchel and Clinton Cave and their longtime friend Christian Anthony, the forward-thinking outfit have dissembled the idea of ‘band’ as we know it, making it into something completely of their own. Their moody, unified and genre bending sound – honed and fine-tuned over the past year in the studio – sees the three multi-instrumentalists producing, playing, and recording every note on their recently released EPs, ‘Part One’ and ‘Part Two’, including the saxophone burning out from the Skins’ inspired pop anthem for hedonistic teens in ‘Cassie’.

That spirit caught the attention of the Madden Brothers and the three-piece signed with their industrious music management company, MDDN. “The Maddens locked us away in a Burbank studio for three months and threw away the key. We really got to preserve that organic sound,” explain the Cave brothers. “To us, production is the most important thing, it’s the most critical element of creativity”.

Inspired by neo-noir crime movies such ‘Drive’ and ‘Nightcrawler’, the track bleak and cinematic lyrics are the vivid snapshot from a long night, which nocturnal aesthetic and primal bliss are captured by the visuals accompanying the single. “We wanted to paint a picture of anger, lust, and danger. Using vast cityscapes and intense action/performance shots to create an almost uncomfortable but still extremely satisfying visual experience”, reveals the band.

Forming Chase Atlantic in their late teens, the trio have packed multiple headline tours across Australia, amassed an impressive digital footprint of followers, released two successful independent EPs and garnered an incredibly large count of Spotify and YouTube plays.

With ‘Triggered’ Chase Atlantic give us a small window into their unique production skills and the intensely creative nature that make them one of names that are going to own 2017.
