Supremely talented Swedish producer Oliver Nelson has remixed “These Hands”, the lead single from Samm Henshaw’s recent EP, The Sound Experiment 2.
Henshaw released “The Sound Experiment 2”, his second EP, via Columbia Records this summer (with new song “These Hands” airing recently). First track “Our Love” was picked up across-the- board support at Radio 1, 1Xtra and Spotify, and saw Samm conclude a sell-out UK tour (including London’s Oslo). He has since been hand-picked to support Chance The Rapper for his European shows later this year, as well as a festival run including Afropunk Festival, Northside, Best Kept Secret, Werchter and Barn on The Farm.
‘The Sound Experiment 2’ is the second, limit-testing EP from the soulful 22-year- old. Warm and effortlessly uplifting, lead track ‘Our Love’ was inspired directly by Samm’s childhood growing up in South London, and the experience of his parents (who are originally from Nigeria).
“I wrote ‘Our Love,” he says now, “about a story my Dad tells from when he first started dating my Mum: his family didn’t approve, but he didn’t care.”
Elsewhere on “The Sound Experiment 2”, second track “These Hands” is a mission-statement to honing your craft, and being able to do anything when you put the work in. “Nightcalls”, meanwhile, is more stripped-back and tranquil, whilst the beat-heavy “Chances” and the soaring “Easy” colour-in the EP’s broad mix of influences (from D’Angelo and Stevie Wonder to Frank Ocean, and the gospel greats).
‘The Sound Experiment 2’ follows a breakout few months for Samm Henshaw, who kickstarted 2016 fresh from a massive tour with James Bay, and was tipped as a One to Watch for the year by the likes of Spotify, Google Play and Napster. The experiment continues.
