Showing a very different side to their recent feel-good anthem ‘Worry A Little Less’ the boys are back with their most personal track yet. ‘In My DNA’ is touching and powerful tribute to their grandfather, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Max & Harvey: “This song means more to us than anything we’ve ever put out into the world. We wanted to tell our Granpop’s story and talk about his life and it took us a long time to work out the perfect way to do that. Whilst writing the song we also had in the back of our minds, the sad fact that our Grandma had been diagnosed with cancer. Sadly she recently passed away, but we were able to play her this song before we lost her, and when she heard it she started to cry. The fact that she knew right away exactly what the song was about meant a lot to us, and we’re so sad she couldn’t be around to see the world hear it. With the current global situation, we wanted to let everyone else hurting from loss or not being able to be with their grandparents know that they’re not alone.”
‘In My DNA’ is their first release of 2021, the first of many the boys have planned for the coming months. The duo have used the last 12 months to properly focus on their music, something they’d not had the chance to do since coming second on Celebrity X Factor in late 2019. “We really wanted to work on our musicianship, so we built a home studio in Max’s room and got to work on making new music.” The boys also had to learn how to use a professional TV standard camera so they were able to film their CBBC TV show – FOMO, at home and they began work on their first ever podcast – School Daze with Max and Harvey. The Spotify original which launched in November last year, aired for 31 episodes and saw the boys tackling the culture of the schoolyard with the help of their family, friends and fans.
This year also sees the return of their live shows, which they’re hoping will go ahead this August. The ‘This is Not A Phase’ 10-date tour starts on August 11th in Glasgow and travels the country before ending on 23 August in Southampton. Full dates below, and Tickets on sale now!
Max: “We’ve missed touring so so much and can’t wait to get back on the road. We can guarantee that it’s going to be the best one yet, with loads of new music and the most energy and planning we’ve ever put into a tour. It’s genuinely the best feeling to be able to perform our songs to people that love listening to them.”
