In 1969 Jimi Hendrix held now-legendary jam sessions at his London flat that lasted long into the night and included the likes of George Harrison, Ritchie Havens, Roland Kirk and many others.
Now Handel & Hendrix in London are bringing back that spirit with a series of Hendrix Flat Sessions, filmed inside Jimi’s old bedroom in Mayfair.
Kicking off the sessions is blues star Joanne Shaw Taylor playing a stripped-back version of her stand-out track Dyin’ To Know taken from her critically acclaimed album ‘Wild’.
Other sessions come from London singer-songwriter Oscar Jerome (accompanied by drumming prodigy Moses Boyd and Mr D.M. of Blue Lab Beats on bass), and Dutch psychedelic trio MY BABY, who stopped off while on their European tour.
The first 3 sessions are available to watch here – https://handelhendrix.org/hendrix-flat-sessions/
You can find more information on the Hendrix Flat below:
The third floor Mayfair flat which Jimi Hendrix called home in 1968 and 1969 opened permanently
to the public on Wednesday 10 February 2016. Following a £2.4M, two-year period of restoration,
building and development, the upper floor rooms of 23 Brook Street are part of a genuinely unique,
new heritage site. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and other generous donors, Handel &
Hendrix in London celebrates the London lives and musical legacies of two of the most important
figures in musical history, who lived, wrote and played in neighbouring buildings, separated by a
wall and 240 years.
At the heart of the Hendrix Flat (23 Brook Street) is the main living room, painstakingly restored to
how it would have been when Hendrix was in residence and offering an insight into the domestic
life of an American superstar musician at the height of his creative powers.
