Howard Marks and Dawn Penn kick off a summer gig-series at one of Liverpool’s hottest new live venues, MOJO.
MOJO has announced a partnership with Heineken which will play host to some incredible artists including some exclusive high-profile shows.
The legendary Dawn Penn, of You Don’t Love Me (No No No) fame will play live at the venue on Bank Holiday Sunday 29th May – her first show in the city for over a decade.
Another big exclusive for the gig-series is Best Coast, the hugely successful American indie surf-pop band who will close the Summer series on August 31st.
Two bands producing the hottest albums of the year – will also appear. The Suuns will be playing their only show outside of London at the venue on Saturday May 14th and tUnE-yArDs will play MOJO on June 16th.
DFA’s Hercules & Love Affair, Vetiver, The Duke Spirit, The Wave Pictures, Gentleman’s Dub Club, The Computers, The Agitator, Thousands, Marques Toliver, Stealing Sheep will also play ticketed shows shows as part of the series.
The gig-series is a combination of ticketed shows and free shows, attracting some of the UK’s biggest live acts for exclusive shows as well as becoming a platform for new emerging talent who are set to become the stars of tomorrow.
Cashier No.9, Times New Viking, Misty’s Big Adventure, The Milk, The Heartbreaks, The Sand Band and Star Slinger will all perform free shows across the gig-series, which the venue says is the perfect extension of their tagline “Music for the People”.
The series is capped off with an intimate evening’s entertainment from with the notorious Howard Marks.
The gig-series is partnered by the well established Northern promoter Liverpool Music Week, which also runs the UK’s largest indoor winter music festival every November in the city.
Attracting a record breaking 60,000 music lovers in 2010, including artists such as The Drums, Warpaint, Efterklang, Sleigh Bells & Leftfield, this year the festival returns with a jam packed itinerary of live music, to take over the city for 19 days creating one of the biggest musical events of the year.
MOJO was a centre-point for the festival seeing performances from the likes of Darwin Deez, Chapel Club, Miles Kane & Los Campesinos.
