Following on from a broad and exciting array of releases over the last few years, which have seen her gather support from the likes of BBC 6Music, Earmilk, Clash, DIY and so many more, fast-rising artist Emily Magpie has now returned to deliver the vivid new single ‘ReFocus’ through her new home on Silent Kid Records.

Exploring the energy of a public protest, building around collected chants from the BLM movement in Bristol and internationally, ‘ReForward’ makes for a brilliantly compelling listen. Filled with her usual and inventive approach to production that feels almost alien to anything else out there at the moment, she creates a wonderfully vivid sound that looks to push the boundaries of her art even further than before. As the second instrumental single in her upcoming project, ReFocus sees Emily manipulating found sounds and creating immersive sonic worlds, honing in on her signature production style inspired by artists such as The Sundrop Garden, Romare and Sudan Archives.

Speaking about the new release, she said, “ReFocus was created after some of the BLM and Kill the Bill protests in Bristol. I remember the energy of the call and response in the crowd, how a new chant would spark and spread and build and build and the feeling of it growing in that moment and knowing it was growing globally was incredible. There was a feeling of change and anger and possibility and I thought how vital that energy is. How vital protest is for democracy.”
