Liverpool singer songwriter Katie Foulkes, better known as Delta Maid is making a welcome return to music this month with new single Better Love.

With this being her first record in years, many have been anticipating what her return will bring. Better Love shows an artist reborn, with a renewed appreciation for her own musical gifts.

When Liverpool’s Delta Maid first emerged on to the music scene in 2010, the beautiful voice and stage presence she naturally possessed – seemed destined to see her become the next big thing.

Katie signed a record deal, toured with nationally prominent artists, and released a well received debut album. But the well oiled machinations of the music industry and their often tight constrictions on which direction to take – was a poor fit for her artistically.

At the age of 23, after being noticed on Myspace, she signed a publishing deal, followed by the release of an EP in 2010 and an album with Geffen in 2011.

She also collaborated with Ed Harcourt (‘Make Up Your Mind’) and Natalie Hemby. The latter led to a number one record on the US country chart with the Little Big Town’s ‘Tornado’. She has toured with Ron Sexsmith, opened for Ray Lamontagne and Martha Wainwright, The Coral, and notable others.

But after all this success, navigating the music industry became a difficult experience for Katie. She found herself pigeonholed and unable to shake off restrictive labels.

After struggling to reconcile her artistic integrity with the demands of the business world, Delta Maid went on hiatus, choosing instead to dedicate herself to writing songs that she truly loved.

Now, free from the constraints and demands of a label, she returns with a single that shows an artist reborn, bursting with the passion that won her so many fans in the first place.

Katie has a voice that will make people drop whatever they’re doing and listen. When she sings a line like… “Now I’m starting to feel like I’m ready to heal from this bitterness,” she does so with such conviction that is impossible not to take her seriously.

Cathartic, inspirational, and uplifting, Delta Maid’s re-introduction is a song so soulful it feels like she never even left.

‘Better Love’ is available everywhere you want to seek it out from January 31st. A Purple Revolver fave from the outset – stay tuned for more news on what Katie will be doing next.
